NORFOLK SISTERS TO HOST UKRAINIAN REFUGEES

Norfolk welcoming a Ukrainian family

A few months ago, our friend Mike Anderson approached us with the news that he was hoping to bring 100 Ukrainian refugees to Norfolk. Like a fire, Mike’s dream sparked the hearts of concerned persons interested in this mission and the plan began to take shape, albeit with many, many ups and downs.

Our monastery maintenance staff and volunteers are working hard to get the house in proper condition. We are especially grateful to our friend and contractor, Rob Ronk, who volunteered to coordinate and oversee the work. So many donations have come from our families and friends to help us furnish and supply the needs of our hope-for Ukrainian family of five: dad, mom and three children ranging in ages 6-13.

Pope Francis stressed the importance of being inclusive to different nationalities, faiths, and backgrounds because this diversity can enrich and revitalize church communities. The Migrants and Refugees Section, founded in 2017, responds to the Pope's call to give special attention to those who are marginalized, forgotten, and displaced.

Sr. Rosann: "Thanks to a generous donation given to us from the estate of Carl and Peg Bendixon, we purchased a house for a Ukrainian family."
